About the Shona Language
Shona is a language from the Bantu family group, a branch of the Niger-Congo languages and has the most native speakers of the Bantu branch. There are technically 8.3m million native Shona speakers much more if we consider all the Shona dialects – Korekore, Zezuru, Manyika, Karanga and Ndau. Ndau has 2.4m speakers and Manyika has 1.3m. The majority of the Shona people live in Zimbabwe with some groups of people across the border in Mozambique. The Shona language uses the Latin script and is an official language of Zimbabwe.
